Abstract EN

The purpose of this study is to investigate the challenges that led to sustainable development in the north-east Badia region as well as exploring the obstacles and procedures used to activate it and its potential benefits.

The sample of the study consisted of (200) owners of developmental projects in the north-east Badia and (10) sponsors of those projects.

Findings showed that the most important challenges led to sustainable development are the high rates of poverty, centrality of services in cities and the high rates of unemployment.

Moreover, the most important benefits of the sustainable development are the increase in health awareness through health education and enhancing the income of the region.

The most important means to activate sustainable development are providing the needed financial resources to establish developmental projects as well as conducting economical studies.

Meanwhile, the obstacles are represented in the lack of knowing the real needs of the Badia by decision makers, the effect of responsible people decisions on sustainable development and the weakness in local participation in making decisions related to development.
