English Abstract
Today, Telecom companies offer a great set of services to their subscribers via mobile phones such as Internet access, Video conferencing, etc.
These services have known a remarkable success which increased new generation mobile phones sales.
Following this success, telecom providers have expanded their research to develop other services such as Location based ones.
For this reason, the E-Tech Lab devotes its efforts to innovate in this field which leads me to develop MEET-GeoGSM.
MEET-GeoGSM thus falls into the category of Location Based Services.
It is an application that aims at breaking boundaries between people in two ways.
It unveils the resemblance between people based on their profiles but also determines their geographical proximity.
These functionalities are accessible either via a web application or a GSM mobile phone.
Via the web, a user registers to MEET-GeoGSM services that enable him/her to find on the net profiles similar to his own.
Via GSM mobile phones, a user has the opportunity to evaluate how close the profiles of people around him/her are.
It means that people’s location should as well be determined by MEET-GeoGSM.
It is achieved by positioning the GSM phones carried by these users.
Then, when the user is aware of the nearby people, s/he could arrange a meeting with one of them by asking MEET-GeoGSM to find the closest place to both of them.
Thus a whole dynamic will be engendered by bringing people with similar interests (professional, musical, etc) together.
Another purpose of this project is to design, build and integrate MEET-GeoGSM into an existing platform called GeoGSM.
The latter falls as well into the sphere of the Location based systems and is financed by Maroc T elecom.
Thus this project’s research focuses on editing a theoretical method for GSM localization, presenting an efficient algorithm for comparing profiles and defining a solution that determines the closest place from two GSM users.
The main challenge in this work is to minimize the changes to the existing Maroc Telecom’s GSM system and GeoGSM platform.
