English Abstract

The work we are concerned with here is part of a big project undergone at Al Akhawayn University (AUT), in collaboration with Lucent Technologies (Swindan, U.K Newemberg Germany).

This project consists of assessing H.323 based applications over Quality of Service (QoS) enabled Third Generaiion Networks, The work conducted here is concerned with developing client/server modules for measurements collection, configuration and dynamic monitoring of the Universal Mobile Telecomtniijiication System’s Universal Terrestrial Radio (UMTS’ UTRA) proxy.

This proxy, initially developed as part of the big project and in a different work, is made of a UTRA protocol stack, a scheduler, a physical link error injector and an IP-intcrfacc.

The latter allows Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and User Datagram Protocol/ Internet Protocol (UDP/IP) client applications to relay their flow of packets in real time via standard or dynamic ports.

The work performed focuses on 1.

Improving the UMTS proxy code, 2.

Developing code for statistical gathering and displaying of the different flows and system’s activities, and 3.

Developing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for a.

configuring both the Linux kernel, where the UTRA proxy runs, and the UMTS demonstrator; and b.

dynamic monitoring of the system’s control parameters and the flows’ QoS parameters.

Different Multimedia experiments were conducted for different Link and QoS scenarios to validate the UTRA Proxy
