English Abstract

Remote video surveillance is considered as a critical activity for most organizations to enhance their security systems.

Current video surveillance systems consist generally of analog cameras, dedicated coaxial cabling and centralized monitoring that require costly point to point communication links.

Fortimately, advances in technology are bringing a lower cost video imaging solution: completely self-contained Network Cameras.

These are small, intelligent and inexpensive cameras that incorporate everything needed to capture live images and deliver them to the Internet.

In this project we will develop a software that will allow the surveillance of different locations of the AUI campus using the Axis Network Cameras.

It would for instance allow a guard to perform a watch on numerous locations from one single desktop.

The program should consist of a mosaic Graphical user interface displaying images objects sent by cameras.

The program will be developed using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) provided by the camera constructor, which is in our case, an ActiveX Component for Visual Basic.

The program should offer a number of utihties to the user such as saving images, freezing the camera, and some other basic image processing features such as zooming and changing the image attributes (brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness)
