Abstract EN

Preventable foodborne diseases present an important public health burden worldwide.

Reported estimates indicate that the majority of investigated foodborne disease outbreaks originated at restaurants where food safety infractions were committed.

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), critical food safety infractions and fraud are repeatedly observed at inspected restaurants.

In this paper, the factors that may lead to the continuity of these violations are discussed.

Labor, inspectors, and regulatory factors are issues that need to be reconsidered to improve food safety in restaurants and in the KSA in general.
