استند النحو التولیدي التحویلي منذ نشأته إلى تصامیم شكلیة عرفت في أدبیات اللسانیات الأمریكیة بخاصة ب : الأنموذج و التي تقوم بدورها على خطاطات تفسیریة مستمدة شرعیتها من صورنه الظاهرة اللغویة.
اقترح تشومسكي في أواخر السبعینیات أنموذجا جدیدا على شكل خطاطة شجریة فسر بها جملة تعالقات بعض العناصر اللغویة.
بعضها الآخر أطلق علیه اسم نظریة س- شرطة / x-bar theory.
التي أسهمت في إعادة صیاغة النظریة النحویة من حیث المفاهیم و الإجراءات التحلیلیة.

La linguistique générative transformationnelle s’est appuyée, depuis sa création, sur des croquis formels, connus dans la linguistique américaine sous le nom de modèle, qui repose sur des schémas explicatifs, et qui tirent leur légitimité de la formalisation de la langue.
Chomsky a proposé, à la fin des années soixante-dix, un nouveau modèle sous la forme d’un schéma arborescent avec lequel il a expliqué un certain nombre de relations entre les éléments linguistiques.
Ce modèle a été appelé la théorie (X- Bar).
Cette théorie a participé à la reformulation de la théorie grammaticale, tant sur le plan des concepts, que sur le plan des dispositions analytiques.
