Abstract EN

Background Aim: A great deal of interest has been focused on the relationship between cytokine response of the host and both protective and pathological response to parasitic infections.

In this context, the level of IFN and IL4 has been studied in many parasites.

However, changes in both cytokines during H.

nana infection received little attention. Methods: in this study, levels of IFN-Y and IL4 were determined in 20 patients infected with H.

nana and 10healthy parasite free matched controls. Results: results revealed significant increase in IFN -Y and IL-4 serum levels in H.nana infected patients as compared to the control group.

Discussion focused on the role played by both cytokines in the immunity against H.

nana infection.
