English Abstract
Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) is one of the most promising and emerging communication technologies that could lead to huge improvements in the traffic management and safety.
VANET is considered one of the major components to build the intelligent transportation system (ITS).
Location privacy protection is considered as a critical requirement in this type of networks since we are dealing with location information shared between vehicle nodes.
Our focus is on protecting the location privacy of users in VANET and enhancing the VANET group concept.
In our research we proposed a location privacy protection technique based on the obfuscation concept that takes into the consideration the reliability in protecting the group leader vehicle location to provide the needed anonymity and protection for the location information from a global adversaries that may have the abilities to control Location Based Services (LBS).
The simulation results show that the proposed technique enhances the anonymity of the group leader vehicle, which achieved by reducing the maximum tracking time spent by LBS for gathering accurate location information.
