English Abstract

Soils in Jordan are often subjected to considerable erosion, swelling and shrinkage and creeps.

Soil is used as a construction material that supports the structure foundations.

Therefore, the foundation soil should be strong enough to support the entire structure with negligible engineering problems. This investigation presents a laboratory evaluation of soil stabilization with different materials.

It focuses on the effects of using stabilization techniques on the clayey soils in Jordan.

Furthermore, it presents a management study for conducting soil stabilization for a proposed site inside Al Isra University (as a case study regarding this investigation). In order to carry out the required investigation, geotechnical laboratory tests were performed to determine the plasticity indices and shear strength characteristics for the natural clayey soil specimens, and also for those using additives. In this research, different additives and mixes percentages were conducted for the purpose of chemical soil stabilization considering the global methods that were suggested in soil stabilization.

However, lime was used as an additive with a percentage of 6%, cement with a percentage of 5%, and sand with a percentage of 20%. An economical study for the used stabilizers was provided through this research. However, a comparison study between them was evaluated considering the required resources for each stabilizer (i.e., materials, equipment, labors) in order to select the best stabilizer and best mix material to be used for clayey soil stabilization in Jordan (i.e., best quality and economical material), and however, this is the management concept for any project.
