English Abstract
The present study investigates apology strategies and expressions in earnest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea.
It is divided into four chapters.
Chapter one, which is the introduction, includes purpose of the study, significance of the study, study questions, methodology and literature review.
The second chapter deals with apology strategies; it looks at apology that is pleading off from a charge or imputation, whether expressed, implied, or only conceived.
It also views on the functions of apologies and apology speech acts.
Chapter three includes Ernest Hemingway's life, the main themes in The Old Man and the Sea, apology expressions and apology strategies motioned in.
In this chapter, an attempt is made to analyze apology expressions and strategies in the novella under study.
The thesis ends with chapter four which includes the conclusions and recommendations
