Abstract EN
Freshwater Snail (Pomacea canaliculata ) samples were collected from intertidal zone of Shatt Al-Arab near salyhea region, Basrah -Iraq.
These samples were analyzed determine bacteriological pollution in the form of Fecal coliform, Esherichia coli,.
as well as were measures levels of the heavy metals, Zn, Pb, Cu, Cd, were measures by used atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
Within the total of 64 groups of P.
canaliculata samples which consisted of at 5 individuals in each group.
the highest bacteriological values, 9x 10³ cfu/g Esherichia coli, >22 x 10³ Faecal coliform, were determined in the August sampling period.
Within the total of 44 groups of P.
canaliculata samples, consisting of at least 5 individuals in each group, heavy metal levels for Zn: 17.0–61.0 ppm, Pb: 0.44–1.34 ppm, Cu: 19.4–52.4 ppm, and Cd: ND - 0.09 ppm.
Arsenic was found below detection limit.
No temporal variation was observed during the study period in the heavy metal concentrations.
