Abstract EN

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a common disease.

Vascular dysfunctions, especially atherosclerosis, are the most cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Researchers are trying to study and understand the inflammatory factors that cause these impairments.

YKL-40 is an inflammatory glycoprotein involved in endothelial dysfunction by promoting chemotaxis, cell attachment and migration, reorganization and tissue remodeling as a response to endothelial damage.

The study aimed to measure YKL-40 levels in type 2 diabetic patients and compared them with that of healthy group.

And study the correlation between YKL-40 levels and levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), IL-6 and hsCRP in type 2 diabetic patients, aiming to detect possibility of consider YKL-40 as an inflammatory cofactor of endothelial damage in these patients.

YKL-40 was quantified by an enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) in 42 (T2DM) patients and 40 apparently healthy participants.

We also investigated HbA1c, by using an ions exchangeable resin, IL-6 by ELISA method and hsCRP by an immune-turbidimetric method.

The Study results showed that Patients with type 2 diabetes had an elevated plasma YKL-40, compared with control group.

Plasma YKL-40 was positively correlated with Il-6 and hsCRP levels.

We also found significant association between plasma levels of YKL-40 and HbA1c.

We concluded that YKL-40 is elevated in patient with type 2 diabetes.

The association between YKL-40, Il-6 and hsCRP suggest that YKL-40 may have a role as a marker of vascular complications of type 2 diabetes.
