English Abstract

Acinetobacter calcoaceticus was found to use the chlorobenzoate compounds as alternative carbon and energy source.

The rate of biodegradation of chlorobenzoic compound by A.

calcoaceticus was studied in minimal salt media (MSM).

These rates of degradation of the different CBAs compounds: 2-CBA, 3-CBA, 3,4-dCBA and 4-CBA at 2 mM concentration (30, 55, 10 and 20 µM/h ), 3 mM concentration (15, 65, 25 and 40 µM/h ), 4 mM concentration (45, 100, 15 and 43 µM/h ) Respectively.

3,4-dCBA showed the lowest rate of biodegradation.

The effect of different conditions on 3,4-dCBA biodegradation were used including: temperature, pH, agitation rate, inoculums size, carbon starvation, carbon adaptation, carbon and nitrogen sources.

The optimal conditions were 37 º C, pH 7, and agitation rate 150 rpm.

Carbon sources such as glucose enhance the growth and repress biodegradation of 3,4-dCBA.

Nitrogen sources such as yeast and trypton relatively reduced the biodegradation.
