In the wake of the collapse of the USSR in 1991, the Russian Federation declined in economic, political and strategic terms.

In the last two decades, however, it has tried hard to retain its power in the three aspects.

The study investigates the strengths of Russia after the Cold War, significantly helping in its return to its international role.

Conventional realists argue that states aim to achieve their own interests, which are represented by possessing the elements of power.

These vary between military, economic and ideological, among others, according to the study.

Exploration also covers the relation between Russia’s power, one the one hand, and its Middle East policy and interests, on the other.
