This study aims at investigating the effect of using the whole language approach on improving the writing ability of second-year English majors at Jerash Private University.
The sample of the study consisted of 100 male and female students enrolled in two sections, which were randomly selected out of five and were randomly assigned to both experimental and control groups.
A writing ability pretest was given to both groups at the beginning of the study to make sure that they were equivalent and homogeneous.
The same test was given as a writing ability post test at the end of the experiment.
The results revealed significant differences between the control and experimental groups in favor of the experimental one, while there were no significant differences between the means of students of the experimental group attributed to the gender variable.
The researcher reached some conclusions and suggested some recommendations.
