Abstract EN
This study aims to identify the influence of the social and political system on writings for children.
It considers a sample of children’s books from both Lebanon and Syria, two neighboring countries whose societies share bonds of affinity and a common history, but whose political regimes are different .After studying the content of thirty six stories for children from Lebanon and thirty-three from Syria, the results show that there are differences between the two countries in different aspects of their children’s books: first, the child occupies a more extensive space in children’s stories from Lebanon; secondly, the image of the family looks more modern in books from Lebanon; thirdly, the social culture looks more urban and diverse in terms of occupations and groups in Syrian children’s books; and fourthly, in terms of the political culture, the Arab-Israeli conflict takes a large space in the books from Syria.
On the other hand, the results also confirm the existence of similarities in the content of the books in both countries in terms of their emphasis on the values of religion, the nation, and the family.
