English Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the linguistic aspects of the national Jordanian songs.

The study investigates the linguistic aspects used in 20 national Jordanian songs.

It investigates the common phonological processes used in such songs.

It is found that the most common phonological processes are minimal pairs, near minimal pairs, lengthening, reduplication, metathesis, loanwords, epenthesis, syncope, assimilation, dissimilation, elision, voicing, and deletion of the final consonant.

The study also sheds light on the statistical percentage that concerns the use of each process.

The first chapter provides a background about national Jordanian songs, in which it states that they can be an informative means of understanding the cultural and social identity of Jordanians.

The songs also express a sense of solidarity and loyalty to the motherland and to the leader.

The songs are expressed in a linguistic consideration.

The second chapter discusses the theoretical framework of the study.

It consists of two parts: the theoretical framework that this study will rely on and the review of literature.

The third chapter explains how national Jordanian songs have been analyzed and shows the procedures by which the researcher finds results.

Finally, the forth chapter discusses the verses and analyzes them linguistically.

The study finds that national Jordanian songs use many linguistic aspects, such as minimal pairs, epenthesis, syncope, etc.
