English Abstract
This study aims at shedding light on meaning relations and pragmatic features in Bedouin Jordanian praise and insult poems.
Among other purposes, Bedouin poetry is strongly associated with praise and insult poems; they mirror the Bedouin culture.
Some people misunderstand these poems.
This study aims to provide a better understanding of Jordanian Bedouin praise and insult poems through lexical semantic and pragmatic perspective.
For this purpose, a number of Jordanian Bedouin praise and insult poems are selected and classified in a table.
The analysis of the poems is based on gathering, analyzing, and clarifying meaning relations and animal metaphor from pragmatic perspective in Bedouin Jordanian praise and insult poems.
This study shows that Bedouin poets depend heavily on semantic and pragmatic features in formalizing their poems.
Analyzing these features will result in a good interpretation and understanding of these poems.
Furthermore, it helps in determining and characterizing the communicative functions of Bedouin praise and insult poems and how these functions are received by Bedouin community.
