English Abstract
This study aims at discussing the lexical semantic features and pragmatic implications of simile in a number of Holy Quranic selected verses.
Principally, it examines the linguistic structures of simile through these two significant linguistic fields: the semantics and pragmatics.
The material of this study relies on the corpus (corpora).
So, the researcher gathered a number of examples of perfect simile from different chapters from the Holy Quran.
The verses are taken carefully and analyzed semantically and pragmatically.
At the lexical semantic field, some of those holy Quranic verses are discussed according to the lexical meanings of the words: the denotative meaning, the connotative meaning, the referential meaning, the social meaning, the affective meaning; and the lexical relations between the word: polysemy, homonomy, antonymy and hyponymy.
From a pragmatic point of view, the study discusses many pragmatic aspects, such as the context and its role in discovering the intended meaning, the cohesive devices that link the text and help us understand the linguistic structure of simile, such as substitution, ellipsis, reference, repetition and conjoining; and the speech acts: locutionary act, illocutionary act and perlocutionary act.
The findings of this study show that there is an active connection between these two linguistic fields in simile.
Also, the study adds an essential aspect for simile through discussing it semantically and pragmatically.
