Abstract EN

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different cow rumen fluid concentrations, as starter, on biogas production from goat manure.

Biogas production experiment was carried out by subjecting goat manure to anaerobic digestion under different concentrations of cow rumen fluid (0.0, 1.0, 2.0, and 3 g per 2.5 L digester) for 45 working days.

Total solids, moisture content, volatile solids, fixed solids, nitrogen content, organic carbon % and C / N ratio of goat manure and cow rumen fluid were determined.

The biogas volume was recorded daily from each digester.

Total solids, moisture content, volatile solids, fixed solids, nitrogen content, organic carbon % and C/N ratio of goat manure and cow rumen fluid were 97.1, 2.9, 63.8, 36.2, 2.5, 40.1 and 16.0% for goat manure and 36.0, 64.6, 73.2, 26.8, 1.6, 54.3 and 33.0% for rumen fluid, respectively.

Regarding total biogas volumes, the results revealed that for the first 15 days of the process, there was a significant difference between different fluid treatments and control, where 2.0 g fluid treatment recorded high volume and the control recorded the lowest value.

However, for the second and third 15 days periods of the process as well as the total gas volume of 45 days no significant difference was observed among different treatments.

Goat manure is a substrate of high potential for biogas production and can generate biogas without inoculum.

In addition, although cow rumen fluid had no significant effect on total biogas production from goat manure substrate, it can be used as a starter to accelerate reaction and shorten retention time of biogas production process.
