A new highly efficient method for the preparation of substituted coumarins via Pechmann reaction using catalytic amounts of trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) under solvent-free conditions is presented.
Short reaction times, easy work-up procedure, high yields high stability of products, commercial availability and the low cost of the catalyst are noteworthy advantages of the current work.
