The notion of collocation in Behdinani Kurdish Dialect with Reference to English

The present study is an attempt to explore a crucial linguistic phenomenon, i.e.

the notion of collocation in the Behdinani Kurdish (henceforth BK).

Collocation, which is a linguistic phenomenon in general and a pure semantic aspect in particular, can simply be defined as a group of words that occur together due to some linguistic traditions.

Moreover, it is characterized by some features like: non-modifiability, non-substitutability and arbitrariness.

Besides, different types and classifications of collocation are realized which are based on syntactic and semantic aspects.

The present paper falls into three sections.

Section one shortly gives some introductory remarks about the notion of collocation, aims of the study, the nature of the data, the models adopted in data analysis and the limits of the study.

Section two sheds light on the definitions, characteristics and types of collocation.

Section three is especially devoted to the collocational patterns in BK.

Finally, the paper presents the main conclusions arrived at.
