Abstract EN

The existential doctrine was fransferred to the contemporary Arab thought within the wealth of doctrines and trends imported from Western thought by its promoters who are convinced with it spiritually and intellectually.

Then they transferred it to us in a translated form and hence our poets, novelists and dramatists submitted to ؛.

The existentialism philosophy does not admit to a model or to an ideal point of view which may come to it.

It does not draw the picture of an ideal human who strives for being that ideal.

This way, it goes far from the ideas of ideal philosophy.

goes also far away from all the religions.

The existentialist, therefore, has no existential regulations to attain.

He rather has to achieve his private existence in accordance with his personal trends.

Therefore, he always lives in an endless anxiety and confusion.

Existentialism clashes with !slam, not only in its stams as a divine religion, but also as a social system which admits with the individual and his right in choice, as well as his responsibility to such an option.

Islam does not overlook the individual’s role in the society but rather it considers it as a block of the whole community bu؛lding, while existentialists do overlook such role.

Islam cannot renounce others because an individual is considered as a member within a family، a national within a state, a Muslim who has duties towards his religion and also a human who has duties for all the humanity.

Therefore, Islam includes a positive method which conflicts such selfish nihilist negativism of existentialists.

Existentialism cannot exceed its being a self hollowness which attacks its believers.

Hence, he inherits loneliness inside the community and upiverse.

It makes an individual become a solitary human island, while creed gives an individual such faith, reassurance and love of life.

The present study is an attempt to trace the existentialism journey in the art of certain novelists such as , Naguib Mahfouz, who was one of most distinctive authors with such a trend, starting in his novel ‘the sons of our alley’, ‘the thief and the dogs, ‘, the road’ , ‘the beggar’.

Existentialism also appeared in Edward Elkharrat’s novel, ‘The railway station’.

It also appeared in Sunaalah Ibrahim’s novels, ‘This scent’ and ‘The committee’.

Eternally, the study reveals such negative existentialist values revealed by the novels’ characters in tire novels to be studied.

The study also reveals its difference from the pure Islamic values which achieves such psychological balance for an individual human.
