ولد هاورد برنتون في بورتسموث 1942.
أبوه دونالد هنري و أمه روز لويس برنتون و كانت تعمل بائعة في محل.
كان أبوه رجال محترما و حلم بان يكون ممثلا و لكنه أصبح رجل شرطة رغم كره لهذا العمل.
اهتمت مسرحية" عظَمة" َ بالإرهاب و نتائجه المدمرة.
تحوي المسرحية خطين لمحبكة, الأول عندما يحتل خمسة ثوريين يساريين بين غير مسكون في لندن.
و الثاني عندما يفقد رئيس الوزراء المحافظ أيمانه بنفسه, و يلتقي الخطيين في المشهد الأخير حيث يقتل (جد) بطل المسرحية و بطريق الصدفة نفسه و الوزير بمادة متفجرة أبلاستيكية.
Abstract EN
Howard Brenton was born in Portsmouth in 1942.
Brenton was the son of Donald Henry and Rose Lilian Lewis Brenton .His mother worked as a shop girl, his father was a gentleman's outfitter who had aspirations to be an actor, but who ended up enrolling as a policeman.
Magnificence (1973) is concerned with terrorism and its destructive results.
The play has two plotlines.
The first is about five far-left revolutionaries who squat an unoccupied house in London.
The second one is about a conservative cabinet MP who loses faith in himself.
The two plotlines converge in the final scene, where Jed (one of the revolutionaries) kills both himself and the MP with plastic explosive.
