Abstract EN

In this study, the energy and exergy analysis of North Gas Company (NGC) Kirkuk, Iraq is presented.

The primary objectives of this paper are to analyze the system components separately and to identify and quantify the sites having largest energy and exergy losses at different load.

The dead states of the environment in Iraq, which are 25 and 101.3 kPa, are used in this analysis.

Energy losses percent mainly occurred in the condenser where (51.17% at Rated load, 51% at Normal load, 46.25% at Real load) of the energy input, is lost to the environment while only about (12.68%, 11.5%, 11.61%) was lost from the boiler system.

The percentage ratio of the exergy destruction for each component to the total cycle destruction at dead state was found to be maximum in the boiler system (HPB+WHB) (77.89% at Rated load, 76.91% at normal Load, 74.62% at Real load ) followed by the turbines (10.66%, 11.21%, 10%) Line header (4.22%, 4.43%, 5.32%), condenser (0.98%, 0.95%, 1.3%) at Rated load, normal load and Real load, respectively.

In addition, the calculated energy efficiency based on the lower heating valve of input gas fuel used in the plant was (58.44%, 59.81%, 59.2%) while the exergy efficiency of the cycle was (34.7%, 34.84%, 33.39%) at Rated load, Normal load and Real load, respectively.
