English Abstract

The Seaports are important organizations in international shipping transport and are more than just piers.

It is also the cheapest means of transport and more a load and the least damage, as well as, its cargo will be secured.

The expert's human, in seaport management, are usually getting their experience through practice.

Most often those expert people do not have available experience at the time needed, so it is reasonable to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) to support the decision maker so to take the right decision for solving the problems that may occur in the seaport.

The developed DSS attempt to help the seaport managers to reduce costs by efficiently utilizing resources, including human resources, berths, container yards, container cranes, various trucks, and equipments.

Among all the resources, berths are the most important resource and cargo schedules of berths improve customers' satisfaction and increase seaport throughput, leading to higher revenues to seaport.

Our Develop Decision Support Systems (DSSs) in this thesis is called Decision Support System for Seaport Management (DSSSPM), and it consists of three main components, which are, User Interface, Model Base Management System (MBMS) and Database Management System (DBMS).

The main characteristic of the DSSSPM system are, the simplicity of use, high efficiency, quick response for critical situations and generating dynamic query and reports.

Finally, The DSSSPM system is a portable and can easily configure to work with various databases, as well as, can be integrated with other systems in the seaport such as the management container yard system (MCYS) and the vessel traffic system (VTS).
