Abstract EN

The issue of empowering woman and the extent of her participation in social, economic and political life in the Iraqi community is a research problem which is necessary to be studied due to the sociological nature of the Iraqi community.

When evoking this community, the complicated and tangled social legacy comes to our minds for this community has all elements and layers starting from tradition and ending with modernism.

The issue of empowering woman is clearly rising in some communities that limit the role of woman in giving birth, managing the affairs of the house.

But the problem becomes more complex when coming to Iraqi law that equalizes among man and woman in the rights and the duties.

The study aims to arrive at the most important obstacles that face woman’s empowerment for the sake of serving and developing her community as well as the extent these obstacles are different according to type for the benefit of serving and developing her community.

To achieve these objectives, the researcher used social survey curriculum which is built on studying the phenomenon quantitatively and qualitatively through analyzing the phenomenon and finding out the relations between its different dimensions.

The sample of 214 was chosen in a cluster random way.

The research arrived at conclusions that the factors than hinder woman’s empowerment are social factors, which come in the first position, economic and political as well as personal factors.

The researcher recommends to change the common view of woman in the community through presenting school curriculum TV programs and all media that give importance to the role of woman and support her in political life.

Finally, the researcher advises to design training programs to increase her self-sufficiency and her administrative abilities to empower her in all different fields; social, economic and political .
