English Abstract
The high traffic volume and high demand on traffic facilities in Jordan are led the increase of roads problems like congestion, pollution, automobiles crashes, fuel consumption, etc.
Also are led to poor road pavement conditions and poor level of service (LOS).
The main objective of this study is to apply life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for pavement conditions that’s helps highway engineers using Pavement Type Selection (PTS) process to determine the most effective pavement that helps pavement engineers to determine the most effective pavement type of supporting and anticipating traffic under existing environmental conditions, providing safety, driving comfort to the traveling public and determine the pavement alternative in ordure particular project, and the best pavement type for future conditions.
The methodology of the study is determined the lowest cost that will be in whole life cycle for deferent alternatives then determined the best one, for this objectives two primary methods of marshal mixed design were applied on two highways which are Zarqa Berien highway(Highway-2) and Al-Mafraq / Al-Safawi Road (Highway-1) .The three alternatives which are traditional marshal pavement (Alternative-1), modify mixed marshal(Alternative-2) and modify asphalt cement marshal (Alternative-3) are compared using BLCC5 software and QM-POM software.
the results show that using altetnative-3 for minor project budget highway such as Highway-2 is more economic for Jordan economy reducing the cost (PV) to 43.1% of using Alternative-1 highway cost, and for major project budget highway such as Highway-1 using Alternative-3 is more economy and saving the maintenance and rehabilitation cost, reducing the cost comparing with alternative-1 to 27.1%.
