Effect of water quality and kinetin treatment on growth and catalase activity of maize seedlings (Zea mays L.)‎

The experiment was conducted in the college of agriculture laboratories / Al-Qasim green university at "15 of June to 15/ of September ,2013 to study the effects of Kinetin (0 , 10 , 20 mg/liter ) and the quality of irrigation water on Maize plant, The seeds were soaked in the different concentrations of Kinetin for 3 hours , then they were sowing in pots.

The study was conducted as a factorial design with two factors which were Kinetin concentrations and quality of irrigation water (1.1, 6, and 12dS .m-1 ) , and their interaction , The treatments were distributed randomly which included 9 treatment ,with 3 replicate to each treatment .

Results showed a significant reduction in the averages of (plant height ,dry weight of root and shoots and K, Ca contents while there is a significant increased in the Na and Proline contents and Catalase activity with irrigation of water salinity, Treatment with kinetin showed an increase in (dry weight of leaves & roots , the leaves contents of K, Ca , Catalase activity), the kinetin treatment caused a reduction in Proline and Na contents in leaves.
