Abstract EN

The objective of the current study was to investigate the release of Ni and Cr ions from dental casting alloys.

Four commercial alloys were used in the experiments, all alloy samples rollers of identical dimensions with diameters of 10 mm and heights of 5 mm were used, made by the manufacturer.

Four samples of energy drinks (Tiger, Power horse, Red bull, Jaguar) were used for each tested dental alloy and tested with times.

The ion release from the above tested dental alloys in the above mentioned energy drinks was measured over 4 time intervals, i.e.

after 0,1, 24 hours and 7 days respectively.

Energy drinks were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer.

Results show that the Ni-Cr alloy released great amounts of Ni and Cr ions in all four energy drinks so that on the very first times of measurement these amounts exceeded the approved daily dietary intake of this elements.

Gradually, the amount of the released Ni and Cr ions increased with great variability in all energy drinks.
