Abstract EN

The present research tackles the concepts of disorder and estrangement in Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul’s A House for Mr.

Biswas.

This novel tries to show the confusion and the division that the colonizers impose on the third world countries followed by the disorder and estrangement of postcolonial era.

The novel manifests a transitional period from colonialism towards post-colonialism; in addition, the novel was published in 1961 which preceded Trinidad’s independence in 1962.

As it is clear from the title of the novel the protagonist tries to find out his identity by having a house of his own.

He wants to put an end to his marginality.

Therefore the novel little by little decodes his struggle to achieve this goal and regain his lost paradise.

V.S.

Naipaul’s A House for Mr.

Biswas, can precisely be called a work of talent that deals with the problems of isolation, frustration and negation of the protagonist as an individual.

The novel is almost an autobiographical and is considered as pictorial of the writer’s childhood events in colonial Trinidad.

Mr.

Biswas as the protagonist is a rebellion character who moves between hopelessness and mutiny in order to overcome the disorder and estrangement in his life.

In brief Mr.

Biswas is a symbolic character who represents Trinidadian society under British colonial rule.
