Abstract EN

The subject of gun control is regulated by law in many countries of the world.

In Iraq, the latest amended law is the number 13 of 1992.

The main purpose behind gun regulation under an umbrella of law is to permit, limit or to completely ban the use of gun from the public in order o reduce the increase of crime and illegal activities.

Thus, the main question that this research has endeavored to answer is to what extent the limitation of gun can affect the commitment of crime? Depending on a comparative study, this research has used the United States' of America and Iraq as case studies and reached the conclusion that both lesser limitation of the use of gun as in the case of America and more limitation as in the case of Iraq have a negative impact on the commitment of crime.

It also reached the conclusion that the main reason behind the increase in crime in Iraq despite its limitation under the constitution is due to the absence of a strong and effective mechanism to implement those laws.

Moreover, the research found that Iraq has been greatly affected by the challenges that gun causes because of its political status as an unstable country engulfed by war in which gun has been a major tool for crime and conflict.

Accordingly, this research, in one of its suggestions, has proposed the country of Iraq to find stronger and more effective mechanism to control the spread of gun that has bypassed its law.

Guns should be premised to own only by sensitive institutions such as defense and security organizations and must be completely banned from any other institutions, individuals, and people.
