Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the frequency of HLA-DQB1 genotypes association in patients with latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA) and classic type 1 diabetes in the city of Latakia/ Syria.

Materials and Methods: LADA patients (aged 35-75 years) and type 1 diabetics (4-33 years) were evaluated in terms of susceptible and protective DQB1 genotypes in comparison with normal control.

Results: Our results showed that there is significant increase in HLA-DQB1 *0302/x (x= any other associated DQB1 allele) susceptible genotype in comparison with normal control group (56.25 vs.

7.1 %; p=0.007).

In classic type 1 diabetics, the frequency of high-risk genotypes *0201/x (79.2 vs.

7.1%; p= < 0.0001), *0302/x (58.3 vs.

7.1%; p=0.002), and *0201/*0302 (45.8 vs.

0%; p=0.003) was significantly detected in comparison with the normal control group.

The significance of *0601/x as a protective genotype was negatively associated with classic type 1 subjects but not with LADA patients (35.7 vs.

0%; p=0.004).

Conclusion: The study clarifies the significance of HLA-DQB1 genotypes associated with *0201 and *0302 susceptible alleles and *0601 protective one in classic type 1 diabetes.

However, only the *0302 susceptible allele was significantly increased in LADA patients.
