Khalil seeks the consolidation of the phenomenon of intellectual amazement that the Arab and the Islamic intellectuals have been trapped in by the beginning of the past century when they incurred the shock of modernity coming from Europe through direct colonization simultaneous with the Orientalism.

The author sheds light on one of the original foundations of negative Occidentalism which has hit broad sections of the elites in both the Arab and the Islamic worlds in what was described then as “the shock of modernity”.

After that, he presents with in-depth analysus the phenomenon of amazement which stormed the cultural Islamic thought and points out the reasons which led to that as well as its cognitive, sociological and cultural consequences
