Abstract EN

This study aims to define the concept of ethics.

It is an interdisciplinary study that trying to link the two specialisties: namely education and library and information science to show the importance of the subject of professional ethics in the universities, especially in the absence of a formal class on the subject as part of the study plan of the Department of Library and Information Sceince at the University of Minia.

Having this will influence the ethical practices of the professionals, and will be used to evaluate faculty members which will contribute to improving the quality of higher education.

The study assessed the impact of ethical practices of faculty memebers on students through a set of variables (school level, gender, and accumulative grade).

The study is descriptive and utilized the survey questionnaire as the data collection tool.

Both external and internal reliability and stability of the tool were assessed by using calculated by the alpha Cronbach's coefficient (alpha Cranach's), and total stability ( 0.87) which is acceptable to the stability degree of reliable field application of the study.

The resentative sample of the study community members was (155) students from the 3rd and 4th divisions of students in library and information science department at Minia University.

The most significant findings of the study is that all the dimensions of ethical practices by faculty members in the Library and Information Department of the University of Minia are high (3.48).

The study offered a number of recommendations including: requesting of the Ministry of Higher Education to adopt a code of ethics which should be applied by all universities in Egypt and to provide annual incentives for faculty members who clearly apply ethical principles, and to stimulate others to follow their example.
