English Abstract
The present study is an investigation of turn-taking with a special reference to Tennessee Williams's play The Glass Menagerie.
It consists of four chapters.
Chapter one is the introduction, which deals with the term turn-taking, the aims of the study, the study questions, significance of the study, literature review, and the methodology adopted.
Chapter two throws light on the main terms employed in this work.
It investigates turn taking rules, strategies, organization, overlapping, etc.
Chapter three is the practical part.
It analyzes turn-taking fields in The Glass Menagerie in a selective way, because it is too long to collect all statements and apply them to each field especially in an MA thesis.
As a corollary, the researcher opted to collect all statements and present them in a statistical table to show figures and percentages.
The last chapter gives the conclusion and recommendations, and shows how turn-taking serves to understand a literary work by employing the rate of overlapping and the effect of power to determine the points of strong conversations and strong events in a literary work and therefore determine the introduction, climax, and the end .
In addition, this study presents a chart of the progress of the fields that affect the play to give additional illustration.
