English Abstract

This study offers a critical analysis of the theory of post-colonialism as it applied in two selected novels: Tayeb Salih's Season of Migration to the North (1966) and Rudyard Kipling's Kim (1901).

Kipling's novel presents the East from the colonial perception by maintaining the stereotypical delineation of the East, and Salih's novel deconstructs the stereotypical depiction of the East and shows the hypocrisy of the colonial project.

It also examines the perception of the East in the British colonial ideology.

The study is divided into an introduction, two main chapters and a conclusion.

The introduction discusses the two authors and their works above mentioned.

It also gives enough information about the theory of Orientalism and its tenets.

In chapter one, ideas and principles of Orientalism are analyzed in Rudyard Kipling's Kim that is read as a colonial project of the empire.

The second chapter discusses Tayeb Salih's Season of Migration to the North as a writing back text that has been written in response to the colonization of Sudan.

The conclusion contains a summary of the findings of the study and answers some questions about the image of colonized orient as reflected in the tow novels.
