Abstract EN

This article deals with the phenomenon of battered women.

It focuses mainly on the psycho sociological and economic factors that could explain it.

As such, it emphasizes the devastating consequences that physical or moral abuse on women has on the personality development and behavior of their children.

Like Sociological theories, many empirical works can be very important in explaining the impact of violence in the family on the children’s behavior and personality.

Indeed, many theories as well as empirical works on the subject have shown that children of violence suffer psychological problems which lead to the distortion of their own view of themselves and of others around them.

As well, they have also proven that, although children who witnessed violent conjugal disputes at a young age may have learned how painful and frustrating abuse is, they nevertheless internalize it as a mode of dealing with their siblings in the street, their teachers at school and their own families once adults.
