English Abstract

Electronic Passport (e-passport) is one of the results of the electronic revolution in the World; since the passport is the document of the person in terms of identity and nationality, including the passport is the property of the country, it has become one of the most important challenges to protect this document from forgery.

This study proposes to develop a security technique to be used with the e-passport in the airports to read its holder’s information by using Radio Frequency Identification technique (RFID).

The proposed system concentrates on the security part of the e-passport.

The code produced by the issuing country will be hidden in the passport photograph by using the steganography mechanism.

At the same time, this code will be stored at the RFID tag.

This code will be read by the control point in the airport using the Nearest Field Communication technique (NFC) from the photo in order to compare it against the value stored in the RFID chip and then detect any forgery in the passport (e.g.

replacing photo) and check the originality of the passport.

This information is based on generation of encrypted key, which is watermarked via the photograph, posed at the passport.

The proposed method is flexible, easy to use, updating, and person tracking, especially in the case of a suspicious person.

In addition, the chip in this method is difficult to clone.

The proposed security system consists of two parts: the first part is the hiding of the security code by using steganography and storing the same code in the RFID tag by the issuing country of the e-passport.

The other part will be operated at the control point to make sure of the e-passport validity by checking the hidden code using NFC and verifying it with the one in the RFID tag.

If the two values are equal, then the system will compute a key using Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange.

This key will be used to read the secret information in the tag.

The proposed framework is one way in helping the design of the E-passport to help in passing passengers through the control points in a very fast and accurate way.

This will help to control the crowded airports in processing the passage procedures
