Abstract EN

The present paper aims to delimit and define the term formerly known as "during addiction".

To achieve this, the researcher applied the qualitative non- interactive method, via collecting data form sources dealing with the phenomenon under investigation.

The major findings indicated the following: The scientific term for the phenomenon is "substance dependence syndrome" which was firstly use by "WHO" ICD8"'s preparatory committees in 1964.

The most appropriate definition of phenomenon was the last definition given by "WHO: ICD:10" on 1992.

The scientific term for the substances causing the phenomenon is 'psychoactive substance" which became popular after the "Vienna Psychoactive Substance Agreement in 1991, and was adopted by WHO: ICS 10 in its last issue in 1992.

The most appropriate and relevant definition for psychoactive substances is the one provided by the researcher; extracted from points of similarity and difference between the multiple definitions given by "WHO: ICD" in its different issues.

By the end of the study, the researcher proposed a number of suggestions and recommendations for further research in the area.
