Abstract EN

The present study was conducted on male albino rats ( 130-140 g ) to evaluate .The effect of methomyl pesticide administration or exposure to γ-rays on DNA,RNA content ,the level of cytochrome P450,and cytochrome b5 in liver, peroxidation cytotoxicity, Metallothionein level (MT) and certain liver metals(Cu, Zn, Mn and Fe) levels.

Two sets of rats were used.

The first received orally methomyl pesticide (1,2,4 mg/kg b.wt ) for three weeks and the second set of animals was exposed to γ-rays delivered as fractionated doses ( 3 weeks) 3 Gy increment every week up to a total cumulative dose of 9 Gy.

The results showed that both treatments induced a significant decrease in DNA, RNA content in the liver nuclear fraction as well as a significant decrease in liver Amino PyrineN- demethylase , Microsomal protein, cytochrome P450 and cytochrome b5.

Also, the results revealed increased lipid peroxides (TBARS) content with concomitant depletion in the liver level of reduced glutathione (GSH), activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT).moreover, a significant decrease occurred in the liver MT and Mn levels.

While the results displayed a significant increase in liver Fe, Cu, and Zn levels.

It could be concluded that the dose of pesticides used are within allowed doses, and to eliminate as much as possible exposure to radiation.
