Abstract EN
The distribution coefficient between 134Cs(I), 60Co(II) and 152,154Eu(III) radioisotopes dissolved in HCl acid solution with Resorcinol-Formaldhyde (R-F) and Zirconyl-Molybdopyrophosphate (ZMPP) ion exchangers dried at 50 0C have been studied using batch technique.
The selectivity arrange was found to be Cs(I) Eu(III) Co(II).
The capacity of R-F toward CS(I), Eu(III) and Co(II) was found to be 6.37, 2.86 and 1.66 meq/gm of the ion exchanger, respectively.
A chromatographic column (0.6cm i.d) of 1 gm R-F exchanger was prepared and loaded with a mixture of (10-3M) 134Cs, 60Co and 152,154Eu radioisotopes dissolved in 100 ml HCl acid solution pH = 2.5.
Completely sorbent of Cs(I) and Eu(III) take place while only 35% of Co(II) was sorbed on the R-F exchanger.
Successive elution of the 35% sorbedCo(II) take place using 12 ml of HCl acid solution pH = 1.2.
Elution of Eu(III) required passing 15 ml HCl acid solution pH = 2.5, while removal of Cs(I) from the column need 24ml HCl acid solution (pH = 0.8).
R-F ion exchanger is valuable in radioactive waste management and water treatment.
