Abstract EN

This research aimed at investigating the suitability of science textbook content to the developmental stage for fourth grade students in Jordan.

To achieve this aim, four instruments were used: The first one was (cloze-test) to measure the level of readability, subjected to (446) students.

The second one was content analysis form to measure the involvement through out content display.

The third one was a questionnaire to measure the visual content standards in images, graphics, applied to (11) specialist in the curriculum and instruction, and the fourth one was a questionnaire to measure the saturation with scientific concepts, applied to (11) specialist from the Science College.

The findings showed that the readability level was very low, and that the book fits about (20%) of all students.

The findings also showed that the involvement through out scientific material display did not fit the students’ age, and has been through graphics, images, shapes were good, while though out scientific activities were (dominating).

The findings showed that the visual content standards in the pictures and graphics were high.

The results also showed that the saturation of the content with scientific concepts was very high, and close to the ratio (400%), that makes it difficult for students' understanding and comprehension.

In general, these findings indicate that the science textbook was inadequate for the developmental stage of the fourth grade students.

In light of the findings, the researcher has recommended that the construction of the scientific content of the book be reconsidered.
