English Abstract

Jordan is a non-oil producing country and faces real challenges due to limited energy resources and high oil bills.

This has negative impact on its economic and social development.

In order to meet the challenges faced by the energy sector, a comprehensive effort must be done toward the solar energy as alternative solution. Solar energy research should take advantage of the location of Jordan which has significant solar resources since it lies in the global solar belt and has some of the strongest sunshine in the world, with solar radiation rates of between 5 and 7 kWh/m2 /day.

The research analyzed the energy sector situation in Jordan and the ability to utilize the solar energy widely.

In this research, shams Ma’an project has been taken as a case study for analysis .

the project is 52 megawatt lies in the southern region of the kingdom with cost of 170 billion to highlight the economic and environment impacts . The results from this study were found that the project have a positive economic, environmental, and social impact on the southern region of Jordan and will increase the share of solar energy in the energy source mix .
