English Abstract

The research work will be carried out in the form of four chapters and a conclusion.

As a student researcher ,I will try to collect and study the related necessary critical data whether in books, articles, or from the net.

The research method can be described as an analytical ,critical, and comparative one.

In the first chapter ,there will be an introduction to the study of the character of the doctor in literature and drama generally and in three different plays particularly.

In the three following chapters respectively, there will be a close textual analysis of each play taking into consideration the main critical opinions produced on the work regarding the character of the doctor.

The selected plays present three different cases for study through the presentation of their main characters in different circumstances. The impact of the character of the doctor will be examined mainely from social, moral, and psychological viewpoints.

In the conclusion ,a comparison will be conducted to show the simillarties and differences of the doctor’s circumstances and attitudes in every studied case.

When collecting the data ,the main concentration will be made on the three protagonists of the plays, Doctor.Faustus, Dr.Stockmann, and Dr.Lvov as well as Ivanov.

The second chapter will deal with an English Renaissance play, Marlowe’s Dr.Faustus.

In this chapter, there will be a focus on the character of Dr.Faustus through a detailed critical analysis.

The third chapter will discuss a Norwejan play by Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People.

It focuses on the difficulties of telling truth and how different characters reveal their feelings about it.

The fourth chapter comprises a study of a Russian play by Chekhov Ivanov.

In this chapter, the conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist Dr.

Lvov will be examined .

This study will use th texts of the plays as primary sources and treat other critical works produced on the plays as secondary sources through an analytical and comparative perspective.
