English Abstract

The Introduction to Waqf and philanthropy course provides an in-depth explanation on the various elements of Waqf : the primary and secondary sources in which Waqf was derived from, its distribution methods, its management of funds, and its reporting.

The course will also include a discussion on the importance of Waqf through analysis of its impacts in the fulfillment of religious duties and contribution towards society.

Discussions on the potential development of Waqf and other philanthropy-based methods in Islam in order for them to contribute effectively to the Muslim community are also part of the syllabus.

Objectives

- Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to : -Explain the Shariah legal framework underlying the Waqf system. -Discuss in detail all jurisprudence related aspects of Waqf through interpretation of the legal texts that act as their primary and secondary sources. -Discuss the economic efficiency of Waqf-based products. -Identify and examine the issues pertinent to Waqf that have emerged in modern Islamic banking. -Explain the role of Waqf in economic and social development. -Recommend a multitude of alternatives on how funds that are related to Waqf can be distributed or invested in light of the new Islamic investment products existing in Islamic financial institutions.

Field work

This course has been designed for individuals who would like to gain an in-depth understanding on Waqf and its related aspects, and for those who deal directly with the management and investment of Waqf.

Features of the course

-The course is conducted using a combination of lectures, discussions, case studies, and an end-of-course assessment. Students are also expected to complete an additional 4 hours of self-study. Note : this course is assessed.
