English Abstract

The study aims to investigate the effect of using Storytelling strategy in teaching in building English vocabulary, by comparing the traditional way of teaching on the first primary grade students in the District of the University in Amman To achieve this purpose, quasi- experimental method was used; due to the nature of the study and suitability to achieve its purposes, study sample was selected in deliberate way, the total number of population (2517) students they were randomly assigned to the distribution of the sample which was(80) students into two groups: the experimental group and the number of experimental group were (40) students who have studied using the method of storytelling strategy, and the control group were (40) students who have studied using the traditional strategy.

To achieve the objectives of the study educational material formulated in accordance with the method of storyboard, and achievement test in the first, second and fourth units of the approved curricula (Action Pack) for the first grade, and the achievement tests had the significance of the validity and high reliability.

The results showed a statistically significant difference in achievement (in the use of storytelling strategy and traditional strategy) due to teaching strategy, and for the experimental group, while the results of the study showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups in achievement (male and female) is attributed to gender, and no statistically significant difference in achievement levels and the interaction between the (teaching method, and gender).

According to the results of the study, it has been formulating a number of recommendations, including: the use of storytelling strategy as an aid of teaching new vocabulary in English, and to keep searching for ways to teach in order to save time and effort of teachers; which aids make the educational process more meaningful.

Also the study recommended researchers to search other aids to support the school English curricula in other grades, and make various educational aids for other study materials not just to the English language, especially to the early grades to make learning more fun.
