English Abstract

The present study aims at building a program for developing intermediate college students reading comprehension skills in Jordan through answering the following questions : 1.

What are the necessary reading comprehension skills for intermediate university college students in Jordan ? 2.

To what extent do intermediate students in Jordan command these comprehension reading skills ? 3.Are these statistically significant differences at ( x =0.05) between students mean points which refer to gender ? 4.

Are these statistically significant differences at ( x = 0.05) between students Mean points which refer to the type of college ? 5.What are the components of a program for developing reading comprehension skills? The sample of study consists of 47 male students and 75 female students who study in three colleges in the north , middle and south of Jordan among eight intermediate universities colleges in Jordan which have 2250first year students .

A multi-choice exam consists of sixty questions was used to measure students reading comprehension skills.

Mean marks , standard deviation and percentage were used with marks of the sample individuals and for investigating .

The first assumption the mean marks were extracted for all individuals and percentage was used to find out the level of students reading comprehension skills .

For investigating the second assumption t- test of differences significance at level(0.05) between mean marks which have ability of the sample performance on reading comprehension test refer to gender.

To investigate the third assumption , ANOVA of the three groups ( Alia , Ajloun and Aqaba colleges) was counted in reading comprehension test .

One of the most important conclusions is building a university college students in Jordan .

The application of the reading comprehension test comes with the following conclusion :- 1.

weakness of proficiency level of intermediate university colleges in reading comprehension skills than that followed in this study was 75 % .

There are no statistically significant differences between students mean scores in reading comprehension test due to college .

3.

There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores which refer to gender .

in the light of this study ,it is recommended to care about developing the reading comprehension skills in the general education stages especially in the secondary stage because it is the basic stage for preparing students for university study .
