اختطف (معظم) من منزله في باكستان ليقتاد مكبلا إلى مركز اعتقال أمريكي في قندهار، ثم إلى باجرام، ثم إلى غوانتانامو، ليطلق سراحه بعد ثلاث سنوات قضاها في غياهب زنزانته الانفرادية دون تفسير أو اعتذار ! ! يروي (عدو محارب) هذه القصة، ناقلا إيانا خلف الأسلاك الشائكة للمرة الأولى كاشفا خبايا العالم المظلم الغامض المحكوم بالخوف، الذي ألقى معظم في غياهب سجونه بينما كان يناضل و صحبه لوضع حد لاعتقالهم الذي أراده الأمريكيون أبديا.

يسلط الكتاب الضوء كذلك بما يثير الدهشة على عقلية سجانيه، و من استجوبه من محققي (الإم آي فايف)، و (السي آي إيه)، و (الإف بي آي)، بكل ما اتسمت به أسئلتهم من عبثية، علاوة على الآراء المتنوعة حول (الحرب على الإرهاب) التي خرج بها معظم من جدالاته مع الجنود الأمريكيين.

و مع ذلك فالكتاب لا يمثل مجرد رواية حول إخفاق العدالة، بل إنه، من جانب آخر، يعد رواية واقعية متفردة حول الإسلام في الغرب في تسعينيات القرن العشرين، و يصنف بجدارة ضمن أدب الاعتقال الكلاسيكي المعاصر.

English Abstract

Moazzam was abducted from his house in Pakistan, and was led in shackles to an American detention camp in Kandahar, to Bagram and then to Guantanamo to be released without apologies or explanations after three years of being held incommunicado.

“Enemy Combatant” narrates this wrenching story from behind the barbed wires revealing the hidden, mysterious and fear-ridden world of detention where Moazzam was held, and where he was struggling to free himself from a detention, which his jailors had intended to make permanent.

The book sheds light on the mentality of Moazzam’s interrogators from the “MIF”, “CIA”, and “FBI” and all the absurdity of their questions as well as the diverse opinions he gathered on the war on terror from the discussions he had had with American soldiers.

“Enemy Combatant” is not only one of those narratives on the miscarriage of justice, but it presents in a realistic and unique way the story of Islam in the west in the nineties of the twentieth century, and rightly earns its place as a piece of contemporary writing belonging to the literature of political detention
