English Abstract
This study explores the issue of the effect of censorship on translation in general and on literary texts of the twentieth century in particular.
It tries to prove that censorship is not always imposed on the translator and also not to view censorship as negative all the time.
The study sheds light on the cultural differences and their impact on literary works writing in the societies.
It also shows the extent to which the political regimes influence the writers, the translators, and the publishing houses.
The reason behind choosing the twentieth century to be under research is that it is full of many political, economic and conceptual changes not only in one country but in many parts of the world.
The study comprises four chapters.
Chapter One includes the preliminaries of the study, i.e.
the problem, the aim, the scope, the significance, the hypothesis, and the procedure followed in this study.
Chapter Two clarifies the theoretical part of the study.
It starts with an introduction for censorship and its relation to translation.
It also introduces the definitions of censorship in general and literary censorship in particular, its reasons, methods, types, and the reasons for censorship in the twentieth century on translated Arabic texts into English and vice versa.
